Zarlink Semiconductor's custom RF (radio frequency) integrated circuit is used in Given Imaging's new PillCam COLON 2 camera capsule for wireless examination of the colon. The new camera capsule provides a patient-friendly alternative for visualizing the colon. PillCam COLON 2 is a smooth, plastic capsule that can be easily swallowed by the patient. Zarlink's RF chip transmits images from the PillCam COLON 2 to an external data recorder as the vitamin-sized capsule passes naturally through the patient's colon.

Zarlink has shipped over one million custom RF (radio frequency) integrated circuits for use in Given Imaging's PillCam® SB video capsules for wireless examination of the gastrointestinal tract. Zarlink's ultra-low power RF chip transmits two images per second - more than 50,000 pictures over an eight-hour period - from the PillCam to an external data recorder as the vitamin-sized capsule passes naturally through the patient's small bowel. To-date, Zarlink's RF chips have transmitted approximately 50 billion images to help physicians visually examine the entire length of the small bowel to diagnose disorders such as obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB), Crohn's disease, celiac disease, tumors and a range of other small bowel disorders.

Zarlink's ZLynx 4x10 Gbps active optical cable with quad small form-factor (QSFP) terminations for InfiniBand QDR provides key performance and cost advantages for data centers. The 4x10 Gbps optical cable delivers critical ultra-high signal integrity required as speeds migrate to 10 Gbps, allowing operators to meet the bandwidth demands of data-intense services such as advanced mobile communications and cloud computing applications. In addition, the light-weight, flexible cable simplifies equipment installation and eliminates airflow concerns to reduce cooling requirements and satisfy "green" performance requirements for data centers.
