Medical-Grade Micropackaging

Zarlink's Advanced Packaging division has a track record of success in developing smaller, smarter and more reliable solutions for mission-critical medical applications, including:

  • Key technology in ultra-reliable applications, such as pacemakers, defibrillators and hearing aids
  • Designed and assembled a module for the world's smallest pacemaker
  • Developed patented in-body antenna technology for medical products

Through our own in-house research and development initiatives as well and key collaborative projects, we're developing advanced medical-grade micropackaging techniques that reduce the size of implanted medical devices while improving reliability. The projects include develop flexible packaging technology for the personal medical device market to increase product functionality, user comfort and convenience by embedding active die in flexible materials such as polyimides. Zarlink is also investigating Chip in Polymer (CiP) approaches that will help reduce the size of modules used in implanted medical devices to enable medical telemetry applications, as well as alternative embedded passive component technologies.
