The Broadband Forum is a worldwide organization committed to rapidly creating specifications for communication service providers and vendors that:

  • Accelerate the development and deployment of broadband networks
  • Foster successful interoperability
  • Manage and deliver advanced IP services to the customer


  • The current Objectives are:

  • Expand and address physical layer options (ADSL2plus, VDSL2, and fiber) for greater performance
  • Expedite IPTV rollout
  • Act as the wireline advocate in FMC requirements
  • Incorporate energy efficiency considerations into our specifications regarding network and customer premises

    The Home Gateway Initiative is an open forum launched by Telcos in December 2004 with the aim to release specifications of the home gateway.In addition to Telcos, several manufacturers have joined the alliance.


    HGI was formed to boost the market of home communication services to the millions of broadband customers served by its founding members. The initiative will drive the development of residential gateways supporting the delivery of services.

    The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is a large open international community of network designers, operators, vendors, and researchers concerned with the evolution of the Internet architecture and the smooth operation of the Internet. It is open to any interested individual.

    Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF)
    The Metro Ethernet Forum is a non-profit organization chartered with the mission of accelerating the adoption of optical Ethernet as the technology of choice in metro networks worldwide.

     

    The Forum is comprised of leading service providers, major incumbent local exchange carriers, top network equipment vendors, test equipment vendors and other prominent networking companies that share an interest in metro Ethernet. In 2003, the MEF bylaws were amended to include membership by large Enterprise organizations specifically to address the growing interest by Business Enterprises. The involvement of the Enterprise is seen to provide valuable customer and technical requirements to further guide the activities of the MEF.

    POP4 MSA
    "POP4" is the new multi-source agreement (MSA) providing a common specification for 4-channel, pluggable, parallel fiber optic transceivers addressing the growing demand for data capacity in today's Networking and Telecommunication equipment markets. These transceivers support applications such as next generation scalable switch-router backplane interconnections together with cost-effective 10 Gb/s Very-Short-Reach (VSR) physical layer interfaces.
